Hillcrest Preschool

The 2007-2008 school year was an exciting one for the preschool, which celebrated its 45th year at this church.  We started off the year by learning all about the creation story and how we are all wonderfully made.  The preschool children enjoyed music class with Mr. Andrew two days a week; learning about sound pitch and trying our different instruments.  The teachers participated in Room in the In by preparing and serving food; and the children in the preschool collected socks and toiletries for our RITI guests.  During December we remembered the true reason for the season and collected books for a children’s shelter.  We held a “soup-er bowl” in February, collecting cans of soup for Second Harvest Food Bank.  We also participated in the scholastic book “classroom cares” program to donate 100 books for St. Jude Children’s Hospital with their trike-a-thon.  They raised approximately $800 just by riding their bikes and collecting sponsors.  Way to go!!  All mothers were treated to a special morning in May when the children presented their moms with homemade gifts, donuts and juice at our annual Muffins with Mom day.

Preschool Sunday took place in May.  All the families were invited to a special service where the children sang two songs for the Call to Worship.  We asked anyone who ever attended HUMC Preschool to stand up and there were quite a few in the congregation.  A reception was held in the Welcome Area afterwards and a great time was had by all.  Several families from the preschool started visiting Sunday services and joined our church family.

This past summer we joined forces with the church to host Summer Fun Days for Preschool children.  On Tuesdays and Thursdays, Hillcrest UMC was filled with laughter as both the older children in the gym and the children in the preschool learned new Bible stories, ran through sprinklers, washed cars, made pancakes and mudpies and enjoyed a grand finale on the front lawn on the homemade, AWESOME waterslide.  You should have been there!

The preschool received a 3 star rating, the highest rating available to all licensed childcare centers and preschools.

We have many exciting things planned for the 2008-2009 school year.

The Hillcrest Preschool is under the leadership of Mrs. Robin Dyer
