Mountain T.O.P.
In the summer of 1974, several youth of Blakemore UMC returned from a mission trip wanting to take their experience to “their own back yard”. They prayed for guidance and Mountain T.O.P. (Tennessee Outreach Project) was born. Their “backyard” turned out to be the Cumberland Mountains of Tennessee. In the summer of 1975, the Blakemore group had involved over 200 volunteers representing 12 churches in the very first Mountain T.O.P. experience. Since then, it has continued to grow. 26 years later, Mountain T.O.P. services 13 counties in Eastern Tennessee. Over 1,800 families are served through the Summer ministry. Last year, 250 churches sent over 3,000 people to help in this mission.
In addition to the Youth program, The Adults In Mission ministry (AIM) is in its 12th year. About 30 families have been served through its Major Home Repair program. Also a part of Mountain T.O.P. AIM are 1) a day camp for children — in which about 500 children participate each year; 2) Summer Plus — a workshop for youth geared towards teaching life skills in a fun Christian environment, and 3) Kaleidoscope Camp — a program for children with special needs.
