Children in Worship
Hillcrest UMC affirms the role of children as a part of our worshipping community. We want to support you as you worship together as a family. There are Children’s Worship Bulletins available in age appropriate packets for worship each week. Ask an usher for the packet for “little kids” (pre-readers) or “big kids” (readers.) The packet includes crayons and other surprises too.

Here are some other ways to involve your children in worship:

  • Share a hymnal with your child and ask them to find the hymn we are singing in worship for you.
  • Move your finger across the page to help young readers follow the hymn text. Early readers may find it confusing to follow the stanzas down the page. Help them discover which text is bold and which is regular type when reading the psalm text.
  • Encourage your children to stand and sit as the congregation does during worship.
  • Decorate a special jar at home and collect change in it for our Pennies for Missions each week. You will find more information about this ministry under “Children in Mission.” Ask your child to be responsible for putting the change into a bag or envelope and to bring it to worship each week.
  • Give your offering envelope to your child to place into the Offering Plate. Remind them that this offering is one way we give thanks to God each week.
  • Talk with your child about the Children’s Moment topic on the way home. Engage the whole family in a conversation about the Bible story they learned in Sunday school and worship.
